John Galliano’s latest Margiela show gave attendees “a high-tech vision of the future”. The gender-distorting collection, designed for the ‘digital nomads’, was presented today at the Grand Palais in Paris.
The gender-neutral show was not what caught my attention; it was the fact that
John Galliano had the models wearing earphones, iPhone ankle clamps and bags with inbuilt iPads. If this is tech on the runway, that I must say I am gravely disappointed. We have evolved past ipads being considered the only fashionable tech around. Not when we have some fabulous gadgets being brought to our attention thanks to startups that could give Apple’s accessories a run for their money. On the models wearing tech on the Galliano told Dazed, “It was very liberating, for sure. I’m feeling from this new generation is that they’re questioning traditional values and everything they stand for. That’s what’s happening, and it’s greatly inspiring me.”
