With the Jawbone UP3 set to be released on the 20th this April and the critics falling over each other to express it is all too little and too late because they promised us that the band would be waterproof instead of splash proof, the popular fitness wearable brand have announced that they are introducing a new non-fitness-related feature in Jawbone’s UP4.
The UP4 will carry a price tag of $200 and it will be launch in a few months. With similar functions as the Jawbone’s UP3, the UP4’s unique stand-out quality will be its NFC tap-to-pay payment feature.
In order to take advantage of the UP4’s new capability, new users will need to use their smartphones to access the Jawbone app that will allow them to manage their payment and credit card details. The downside might be that you would have to totally rely on the payment terminal to see if your payment has gone through.
The only catch is that the Jawbone UP4’s Amex NFC payment scheme is currently only available in the U.S, but Jawbone does plan to do a big international launch of their UP2, UP3 and UP4 sometime this year.
For a company that has only been around for 4 years, Jawbone sure is leading the way when it comes to fitness wearables walking down the same path as Samsung Pay and Apple Pay.
