The V&A’s Latest Exhibition Explores, ‘We are now all connected, but are we still lonely?’

From smart appliances to satellites, artificial intelligence to internet culture, The Future Starts Here exhibition brings together more than 100 objects as a landscape of possibilities for the near future.

Opening on Saturday, 12 May 2018, The Future Starts Here is a must-see exhibition at the V&A in London. On display will be emerging technologies that will affect our lives in the not too distant future, and what choices we have – as citizens – to influence their development.

Exploring concepts that might seem straight out of science fiction, The Future Starts Here brings that world of tomorrow as shaped by the designs and technologies emerging today. From smart appliances to satellites, this exhibition brings together more than 100 objects either newly released or in development that point towards where society might be headed.

With the majority of them produced by research labs, universities, designers’ studios, governments and corporations, you will be guided by ethical and speculative questions, like, ‘We are now all connected, but are we still lonely?‘. The V&A invites you to step into four scenarios – self, public, planet and afterlife. Each situation has been set up to evoke increasing scales of technological impact.

Giving the impression that the future is already fixed, the exhibition opens our mind to  But unpredictable potentials and possibilities. So if you would like to find out which objects could suggest an inevitable future, then The Future Starts Here could be right up your street. But remember innovation might be opening doors to what could be, the future is not yet determined that is up to us.

The exhibition is priced £15.00 and it will run from 12th May 2018 until 4th November 2018 in the Sainsbury Gallery.
