Fitness Trackers Are Like Shoes, You Can Never Have Just One

Just as our excitement from the last launched fitness tracker begins to wane, like a regular bus, another one comes along to tempt us into buying into it all again.

Today is that day. Sony Mobile Communications (Sony Mobile) have just announced the launch of the SmartBand 2. It is a multi-sensor lifelogger that provides full-scale insights about your fitness, well-being and stress levels.

Inside the same SmartBand modular “core” form factor, SmartBand 2’s accelerometer and heart rate sensors work together to monitor pulse and heart rate variability, allowing you to gauge overall fitness, excitement and stress levels throughout the day.

SmartBand 2 automatically tracks activities such as walking, running and other workouts whilst mapping your heart-rate alongside each activity. Sony’s popular Lifelog app helps you keep track of progress, with fun comparative insights, giving you inspiring motivational prompts based on your activity.

On the new band, Kaz Tajima, Senior Vice President, Head of UX Creative Design and Planning at Sony Mobile Communications says, “We set out to create the most advanced wearable at this section of the market – SmartBand 2 has the capability to deliver, and make biometric data meaningful for users within Lifelog” . Tajima continues, “Not only does it represent a powerful vision of how consumers can learn more about themselves – it allows us to explore exciting new opportunities with development partners.”

It is not the health aspect that is tempting me to the Sony side, it is the fact that the SmartBand 2 will ensure that I will never miss a call, message, email or tweet again (sigh).  I also, love that the SmartBand 2 reaches full battery capacity in around one hour, and it can go up to 2 days without being charged.

Designed at Sony’s Creative Center sites in Sweden and Japan, the SmartBand 2 gives wearers that 24/7 feeling. Made out of durable silicone casing that SmartBand 2 can be worn anywhere and everywhere. With a sleek look, the SmartBand 2 will be available in Black and White, with Pink and Indigo to follow at a later date. Launching in 60 countries worldwide, the SmartBand 2 is available in September 2015 for around 119 EURO.
