Will 2016 be the year that we trade in our traditional sports bra for the smart bra? Well if OMsignal have anything to do with it, we might just end up doing so.

CES 2016, OMsignal announced the launch of their latest innovation OMbra. Well known for their collection of smart shirts for men introduced back in 2014, OMsignal are now headlining again with OMbra, a bra that has been created to be in perfect tune with you.

OMbra’s ultimate smart bra is a revolutionary, head-turning undergarment that was painstakingly crafted over the course of a year by experienced sports bra designers, scientists and engineers. With over 25 years of experience in the smart textile technology industry, they came up with 1633 prototypes before OMbra finally came to fruition.

The key design elements of OMbra are stretchable fabric, mesh, cups, adjustable straps and closure. The stretchable fabric is light and conforms to the body whilst in movement. It allows the bra to easily adapt to any breast shape. Created from a blend of polyester, nylon and elastane, the OMbra also serves as an absorbent to pressure and reduces stress on the back and shoulders.

The mesh not only ensures breathability but it also has antimicrobial sweat-wicking properties. What I like most is that the OMbra limits movement of the breasts by securing the movement in 3 dimensions with adjustable straps, lateral stitches and double-layered compressive sides. The OMbra comes with removable padding to adjust to different cup shapes and sizes, and to accommodate different climates.

As the revolution of sports tech continues to evolve, the OMbra promises to be the perfect coach for women who want to push for optimal performance. The OMsignal scientists have developed additional metrics exclusive to OMsignal. Besides the basics, the smart bra can measure distance, cadence, pace, heart rate and calories. When worn you will be able to track breathing rhythm, fatigue and you can also take full advantage of the OMsignal Biometric Coach who will push you that little bit harder.

With Hexoskin, Sensoria, and Athos offering consumer products, and companies such as Zebra and Catapult outfitting professional sports teams, I look forward to 2016 being the year that clothing (including underwear) use technology as a means to further fashion, not to simply count steps and perform a function.

Prices and availability of the OMbra are yet to be released.
