Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles; Introducing RL Iconic Polo Shirt 2.0

Ralph Lauren reimagines its iconic Polo shirt with Mother Nature and commits to removing 170 million plastic bottles from landfills and oceans by 2025.

American fashion brand Ralph Lauren is no stranger to innovation. They have shown fearlessness when it comes to adopting technology. They have introduced a few tech fused products including the tech parka and a bomber jacket for Team USA. Announced at the official part of the team’s Winter Olympic uniform, Ralph Lauren created it using a heat-conducting ink that generates warmth, kind of like an electric blanket. This time around the globally recognised label has unveiled Earth Polo, a garment made completely from recycled materials.

Ralph Lauren’s Approach to Sustainability

Committed to removing 170 million plastic bottles from landfills and oceans by 2025, the fashion company’s latest innovation has been crafted from thread derived entirely from recycled plastic bottles and dyed in an innovative process that uses zero water. “Plastic waste is a major issue threatening the environment—we want to be part of the solution and utilize an innovative approach to create something valuable,” said David Lauren, chief innovation officer.

The Earth Polo, made from an average of 12 plastic bottles, was produced in partnership with First Mile, an organisation with a global mission focused on sustainability and positive social impact. First Mile works with entrepreneurs in low-income communities to collect recyclable plastic bottles, which are then processed through a unique and eco-friendly manufacturing program and turned into high-quality yarn and ultimately fabric.
