Design Studio of Innovation in Sustainable Fashion Creates Biodegradable Capsule Collection

Solve on creating a Biodegradable wardrobe for you and the environment.

While indulging in some retail therapy at NotJustALabel online store, I came across an impressive line called ‘OMDANNE ‘ by Solve. The capsule collection, which is composed of three timeless pieces called the ‘T’, ‘R’, and ‘E’, can be converted into over 30 styles which range from jumpsuits and dresses to trousers and jackets. Adopting a more sustainable, conscious approach towards design, Cristina Dan, Principal & Founder of Solve explains, “We create products that we wish existed, explore new territories and dedicate our work to the imagination with a human-centred approach, as we believe that fashion has an added value to the world, apart from aesthetics”.

Biodegradable Fashion Never Looked So Good

The Romanian-Danish design studio based in Denmark embraces the role that innovation can play in the progression of sustainable fashion. Although their collections explore new territories, their primary goal is making sure that all their clothing returns safely into the ecosystem at the end of its life cycle. They do this by taking a human-centred approach to fashion, that in turn allows them to design, source and produce with a circular mindset and healthy ethics in mind. “The fibres are 100% biodegradable in compost, and they become nutrients to the soil”, states their site.

“The fibres are 100% biodegradable in compost, and they become nutrients to the soil.”

Founder Cristina, a contextual fashion designer trained at VIA Design University in Denmark with a background also in Circular Economy and Biomimicry, is the brains behind Solve’s OMDANNE collection. Made out of 100% woven lyocell TENCEL® fibres, she explains; “Because we wanted to maintain the biodegradable factor of the fibre for our garments as well, we made sure that no harmful chemicals are added in the next phase – the manufacturing of the fabric”.

The botanical fibres that make up the collection are made from wood such as eucalyptus trees and they are the strongest of all cellulose fibres. The fibres have unique properties that make the wearing experience very soothing. They absorb moisture and then release it to the outside, leaving a fresh feel after every wear. Because the moisture, which usually sustains bacteria growth, is transported into the outside of the fibre, the formation of bacteria is reduced.  But that’s not all, TENCEL® is also one of the most sustainable fibres ever made, as it has an innovative closed-loop process for which it received the “European Award for the Environment” from the European Union.

Designed in a studio of innovation and sustainable fashion, the collection is manufactured in Romania, and can be viewed at Solveapparel.com. All three styles are available for pre-order. Prices start at £220.00. Shipping of garments will take up to 15 working days.
