Fitbit Reigns Supreme at Wareable Tech Awards 2017

In its second year, the Wareable Tech Awards 2017 continues to shine a spotlight on the most important innovators in the hugely exciting world of wearable tech.

Last night we attended the Wareable Tech Awards 2017 in association with Currys PC World. The invite-only event took place at Shoreditch Town Hall, London, and was presented once again by the Metro’s Technology Editor, the hilarious, Lucy Hedges.

The Wareable Tech Awards 2017

Wareable, which launched 2014, is a tech site dedicated to wearable technology and the connected self. In its second year, the awards are successfully shining a spotlight on the most important innovators in the hugely exciting world of wearable tech. As one of the guest judges alongside Jeremy White (Wired UK), Thomas Tamblyn (Huffington Post), Rhiannon Williams (i paper), Amy Cutmore (Ideal Home), Tom Emrich (Super Ventures), Kieran Alger (Man V Miles) and Will Coates (Curry’s PC World), I had the pleasure of exploring some of the best wearable devices of the past 12 months that were up for nomination.

Fossil Group’s designer range won Fashion Tech Wearable of the year 2017

This year we saw the Fossil Group bag Fashion Tech of the Year for its connected designer wearables across brands like Diesel, Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Armani. The Apple’s Watch Series 3 was named Smartwatch of the Year with Louis Vuitton’s Tambour Horizon named Highly Commended. Garmin’s feature-packed Forerunner 935 was named Sports Watch of the Year while the sports giant also picked up Hybrid Watch of the Year with the Garmin Vivomove HR.

When it comes to lifestyle tech, Wareable.com founder James Stables had an exciting announcement to make. A brand new tech news site called The Ambient will go live this November informing its readers of the latest smart home technologies. As for the awards, Ring took the Smart Home Tech of the Year award for its smart doorbell and security cameras while Nanoleaf’s modular lighting system was given the Highly Commended nod.

Bragi won Hearable of the Year 2017

Running and cycling app favourite Strava picked up Fitness Platform of the Year, while HTC’s Vive Tracker was named VR/AR Innovation of the Year, despite stiff competition from Apple’s ARKit. Our favourite Bragi’s Dash Pro was named Hearable of the Year and London-based startup Circadia picked up Startup of the Year. Posture tracker Upright Go was named Health and Wellbeing Tech of the Year.

The star of the night was the Fitbit Alta HR wearable fitness tracker which took home two gongs; Fitness Tracker of the Year and the prized Wearable of the Year at the end of the night. Once all the awards were handed out, our glasses were refilled, dessert was served, and the DJ got the party started.
