By now I am sure that we have all heard about The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Spring 2016 exhibition, titled Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. It focuses on the role the handmade and machine-made play in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear, and their symbolic associations over the years.
The exhibition, which opened to the public on 5th May 2016, will challenge visitors’ perceptions, whilst introducing them to pieces like Iris van Herpen’s bird dress from July 2013 and many other iconic vintage garments that were made with the help of machines. On that note be sure to take a moment to get acquainted with ‘From sewing machines to 3D printers: How technology is transforming fashion’ and then book your tickets.
