The fashion week season, which begins Thursday 10th September in NY, seems to have kicked off early with Zac Posen‘s latest collection.

As we all know, tech is not new to the runway, so therefore it should come as no surprise that there was a special tech appearance in Zac Posen’s latest collection. The designer, who has partnered up with Google initiative Made with Code, showed of his Zac by Zac Posen diffusion line featuring an LED dress at Industria Superstudio in New York City today.

The one of a kind dress, worn by the fabulous Coco Rocha, razzled and dazzled the crowd, as the striking supermodel with the most minimum of makeup walked the runway. Inspired by “Los Angeles after dark”, the talented designer was not alone in creating this handsome dress. He partnered up with Made With Code mentor Maddy Maxey.

Creatively showcasing different animations, the tech infused dress showed off both Posen and Maxey’s vision. Having worked together every step of the way, including the decisions on the technology used, Posen shared;  “It’s an extensive process both from a technology standpoint and from a fashion perspective, I, of course, wanted the technology to work perfectly, but I was also very cautious about what the finished garment would look like.”

When it comes to Fashion Technology being part of his creative process, Posen seeks the kind of technology that will “come to life through my creations”. Clearly reaping the benefits of working with Made with Code, it is easy to forget the importance of this initiative. Made with Code are successfully highlighting the importance of empowering and encouraging women to get involved in the field of Fashion Technology.

Posen’s partner Google is no stranger to Fashion Technology, having gained column inches with Google Glass and Project Jacquard. Google is a company big on supporting #WomenInTech. On the subject of women in technology, Pavni Diwanji, vice president of engineering at Google stated,  “We need to work on better pathways to encourage and support girls’ interest in computer science, and connect them with peers who share that interest.”

Now back to the dress. We believe that this stylish garment has been sewn together with hope, hope that it inspires many to realise how creative code can be.
