Altering the atmosphere around you with light and sound has been an option for some years now. Sony had the bright idea of combining Audiology with Illumination with their LED lightbulb bluetooth speaker. This new lifestyle tech shouldn’t come as a complete surprise because technology has been moving into our living rooms for a while now. Sony’s LED lightbulb isn’t the first of its kind. Last year JBL, among others, came up with an LED light integrated Bluetooth technology.
The 360-lumen bright bulb uses a 2 watt, 40mm speaker and all you have to do is screw it into your regular light socket. You can use your smartphone to control the lightbulb’s brightness and volume via Bluetooth 3.0 capability or from an app which you can subsequently run on your tablet too. The price that Sony is demanding for their lightbulb is definitely a little on the high side- $199 for a single lightbulb. With such a high price ringing in our ears, the good news is that those on a budget can always turn to their competitors who have various versions available from about $50.
As of 23 May 2015 the device will first be on the shelves in Japan and be available worldwide via Sony’s online store.
