Well known NY department store Barneys will be the first luxury store chain to introduce a fashion tech device accessory to its consumers. Collaborating with Opening Ceremony, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Intel on wearable technology pieces.
Founded by Carol Lim and Humberto, Opening Ceremony will be designing the smart bracelet and Intel will be providing the technology for the smart bracelet. With the bracelet being sold exclusively at the Barneys, they hope that it will appeal to the modern consumer, whilst setting them apart from their competitors. “Intel brought forward a unique opportunity to bring the fashion and technology industries together,” said Tomoko Ogura, senior fashion director at Barneys New York, “We believe in the power of technology in fashion.”
“The thoughtful design, which seamlessly works into our customer’s lifestyle and wardrobe, is what spoke to us first. This is an opportunity to present to our customer a beautiful accessory which is also an intelligent device.”
Tech accessories have become fashion items themselves, with luxury brands designing high-end versions of devices. When it comes to industry opinion, both Barneys and Opening Ceremony are known for being ahead of the curve within the fashion industry, and a successful wearables launch would solidify their reputations within the technology industry as well.
