Nike’s Latest Innovation Is An Environmentally Friendly Flyknit Kickass Bra

The right sports bra can be the difference between a kickass workout and no workout at all.

Hey ladies, there is a bra that we have fallen for. Designed by sports giant Nike, the bra’s support  is made of a material that uses knit structures instead of wires, pads, or elastics. Flexible, due to a significant reduction in both materials and seams, the Fe/Nom bra only has two panels and a binding, compared to a high-support Nike bra which can have up to 41 pieces and 22 seams.

The great advantage of Nike using Flyknit is that it is environmentally friendly. Nike Flyknit first debuted at the 2012 London games with the Nike Flyknit Racer. It is a digitally engineered knitting process best known for its role in lightweight, formfitting and virtually seamless shoe uppers. Nicole Rendone, senior bra innovation designer at Nike explains, “Knitting is very sustainable and produces minimal waste. When you knit, it’s not like you’re cutting away fabric and throwing pieces away.”  Today, the technology is used in Nike footwear across sport, from the Nike Zoom Fearless Flyknit women’s training shoe to Kevin Durant’s signature Nike KD10.

Thirty percent lighter than any other Nike bra, Rendone told WWD, “If you think of the components, they’re the major points of irritation.Bonded-on components and elastic bands are common sources of irritation. Our bands are really thin.”

“Knitting is very sustainable and produces minimal waste. When you knit, it’s not like you’re cutting away fabric and throwing pieces away.”

Nike’s bra philosophy is to deliver a wide range of options – for fit, support, feel and style – offering the perfect bra to match personal preferences. That’s why Nike is launching three other new bras this season for 30 total styles – its most expansive bra collection to date. Sizing will span from from 32A to 38E, and will offer light-, medium- and high-support options.

On the bra she shares, “Some sports bras keep me so locked in that it’s almost hard to breathe. But when I wear the Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Bra I feel free, like I can move around but still be completely supported.”
