Mindful High-Tech Smart Glasses Sensitive To Our State Of Mind

Safilo, the third largest frame maker in the world, develops an eyewear that tracks brainwaves and sends the results to an app.

It seems that when it comes to smart glasses, brands and startups are finally looking to get it right. You only have to name drop Snapchat Inc and Vue and people will nod in agreement that we have moved past Google Glass and onto greener pastures. With stylish, smart glasses now raising the bar, we wonder whether Safilo’s innovative glasses have the tech pull to stand out for all the right reasons.

Mindful High-Tech Smart Glasses Sensitive To Our State Of Mind

The made in Italy brand was founded in 1934. With 80 years of strong heritage, Safilo’s eyewear, famous for its special flexible material known as celluloid, is the third largest frame maker in the world, behind Luxottica and Essilor. Wanting to remain in the leading position Safilo has now developed an eyewear that tracks brainwaves and sends the results to an app.  The objective of this is to assess the state of your mind and help you relax and meditate. It all sounds wonderful, but how does it work?

“Safilo has now developed an eyewear that tracks brainwaves and sends the results to an app.”

Well, the Italian frame-makers for Dior, Fendi and Hugo Boss, high-tech pair smart glasses have been developed to mainly assess and improve the wearer’s mood. When it comes to how they work, the glasses have five sensors that are embedded into the earpieces and the bridge of the nose. The unnoticeable sensors have been designed to discretely measure brain waves and send the results to an app. By assessing ones mood and emotions, the glasses inform us when we are feeling stressed out, so we can take steps to relax and meditate.

On their venture Safilo Group CEO Luisa Delgado said “Consumers shouldn’t have to make sacrifices in order to get the technology.” InteraXon CEO Derek Luke added, “No one knows the technology is there, except the person who’s wearing the glasses.”

Looking to attract a broader audience, Safilo debuted their smart glasses at CES 2017. With plans to release their stylish tech glasses by summer 2018 we do hope that their impressive technology would not have gone out of fashion by the time 2018 rolls round.
