Met Gala 2016: The Super Bowl of Fashion

Tonight, we look forward to the Hollywood elite red carpet strut at the hotly anticipated tech themed Met Gala.

The annual Met Gala is upon us again. Famously named the ‘Super Bowl of Fashion,’ this year we hope to see stylish stars, such as Rihanna and Beyonce, walking down the red carpet in looks that offer a bit more than a posh label.

We have been excited for a while, since the announcement, earlier this year, that the theme will be centred around the Apple sponsored Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology Exhibition. For us it made sense that this could potentially be the perfect event for [inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”” suffix=”null”]Hollywood’s fashionable elite to stylishly succumb to being tech muses for the night[/inlinetweet].

With many more fashion tech designers making a difference today then there was this time last year, we got even more excited when fashion house Marchesa announced today that they have created a Cognitive Dress with IBM technology for this year’s Met Gala. After a rather shameful fist pump, we wondered, wouldn’t it be great if such news was accompanied with the unexpected revelation that labels the likes of Iris van Herpen will also be dressing celebrities? I would love to see various innovations sashay down the red carpet to the sound of excited of paparazzi cameras.

The event guests, selected by Anna Wintour and her people, usually wear the design house that they are associated with, which brings about the question what does that mean for the new breed of innovative designers? On this stylist Manny, shared that “You really can’t predict what celebrities will wear as most of the pieces will be one-off creations.” Stylist Cristina Ehrlich added “Unlike other red carpets, the Met Gala is really a collaborative effort between myself and my client.”

For those who want to catch all redcarpet wow’s then E! News will be airing a red carpet special live, with a pre-show at 7pm ET, followed by red carpet fashion at 7.30pm and with that being said, we wait with baited breath to see which duckling dares to transform into a tech muse swan for the night.
