Lee Seo-Hyun, Fashion Tech’s Very Own ‘Ms Big’?

Youngest daughter of Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee is looking to play a key role in the merge of Fashion and Technology.

We have a #WomenInTech crush on a woman promising to revolutionise the global fashion industry, Ms Lee Seo-Hyun.

Youngest daughter of Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee, and graduate of Parsons School of Design is looking to play a key role in ensuring that the merge of Fashion and Technology will be a successful one. Considered to be quite the fashion influencer in the Korean fashion industry, we are excited to see how the 43 year old intends to make this happen, who knows maybe her vision could in the long run encourage other ‘women of influence’ to follow suit.

Today, President and CEO of Samsung C&T’s fashion division (Korea’s largest apparel group), Lee Seo-hyun gave her first-ever formal debut on the global fashion stage at the sold out Conde Nast International conference which is being held at Hotel Shilla from the 20th and 21st April 2016. Attended by the likes of Suzy Menkes, Anya Hindmarch and Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, Lee shared, “Technology can never surpass human creativity, but there is greater potential when the two are combined. And I’m confident that Samsung is up to the task.”

She continued, “At the centre of the fast-moving digital age are the Millennials — a new generation of tech-savvy consumers who extensively make use of social media and share fashion trends and product knowledge in real time.

As these Millennials move into their prime spending years, the luxury and high-end fashion sector must quickly embrace inevitable changes in the way they market their goods and communicate with consumers.”

With Samsung’s revolutionary tech background as her playground, she will be able to use the tools at her disposal to nurture and launch young talented (Korean) designers. We are confident that she is the woman whose drive and ambition will enable her to build a new luxury empire in Asia, the “LVMH Group of Asia,” [Suzy Menkes] if you will. On this, Lee envisions, that in the next 5-10 years Samsung Fashion will gradually expand overseas. She believes that, “If the industry acts quickly and embraces technology, I think that future luxury will be limitless. The possibilities are limitless. And that is a future we can all look forward to.”

With such high hopes of becoming a growing influence in the fashion tech space, I do believe that her contribution to the industry will be a good thing. She has the power, and the money, to make it happen and who knows, Lee Seo-Hyun could just turn out to be fashion tech’s very own ‘Ms Big’.
