The use of Fashion Technology is not always obvious, sometimes the choice of technology utilized can be the type that one would use to create the collection rather the kind that is integrated into garments. A great example of a designer taking of advantage of the this is Carolina Herrera.

The use of technology for Herrera’s AW16 runway at NYFW was not only the virtual 3D streaming of the show kind, the designer also used modern technology to create her collection. On the techniques she adopted, Herrera shared, “The way I use the new technology is in embroideries that are just beneath the print of the collection. The embroideries are all floating. I call them 3D. [inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”null” suffix=”null”]I’m always fascinated by the new technology we find in fashion.”[/inlinetweet]

The use of advanced technology to create collections is a road that many fashion labels should be travelling on. Why? Because it holds many benefits for designers. As technology takes off in the direction of a greener future, some fashion labels, like Herrerra, are finding ways that they can use the lastest technology to not only improve their designs but also challenge them to think outside the box. Technology allows designers to be creative beyond nolmacy whilst being environmentally friendly too. A great example of such technology is digital printing. This is were prints are directly applied to fabrics with printers, reducing water usage by 95 percent, energy reduction of 75 percent, and minimizing textile waste. This is a technique that has been used by designers like Mary Katrantzou, Alexander McQueen and Basso & Brooke.

Unruffled by the changes in the industry, Herrera’s AW16 collection was all delicate organza, flirty feminine, stylish silk and a pale colour palette that glided down the runway. Although old school, we love that Herrera has shown that she is open enough to keep her eye on the future of fashion technology, which is a great!
