As collaborations are likely to rule 2016, it comes as no surprise that Virgin Galactic has partnered up with Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto‘s x Adidas label Y-3.
At the Spaceport America in New Mexico, home to Virgin Galactic, they revealed a design worthy to be worn in a place beyond the stars- a flight suit and boots.
Tailored for comfort and designed to support a pilot’s natural position, the flight suits have been created using 3D-engineered patterns and advanced fabrics that brag heat-resistant and are made from strong synthetic fibers. As for the boots they have been made with leather and feature special outsoles and heel inserts that provide extra grip and maximize shock absorption.
According to a statement issued by the two companies, astronauts will trial the new space suit during Virgin Galactic‘s flight test program, so as to ensure that the suits are practical to wear whilst piloting a commercial space flight.
With no date yet for Virgin Galactic’s first commercial flight, the space company did reveal that they will be releasing a limited edition jacket for passengers who will be aboard the first Virgin Galactic spaceflights. With those words spoken, we now have to wait with anticipation for Mr Branson to give it all the final go ahead.
