Paris Fashion Week, for some it is about Chanel, for others, it is Louis Vuitton but for us, it is all about the talented couturier Miss Iris van Herpen.

Iris van Herpen Walks Out on Runway With Model at end of SS16 RTW at PFW- 6th October 2015

This season, van Herpen’s Spring|Summer 2015 RTW did not disappoint. The boundary-pushing designer presented a collection that, although not as eye-catching as previous collections, was still just as beautiful. The models with sleeked back hair and nude makeup embodied the aura of a strong warrior woman. As they strutted down the runway their look was all about the structure, cinched waist, three-dimensional mesh and futuristic shoes. Giving us Xena Princess meets amazing stylist, van Herpen’s choice of colours played the submissive role to the dominant design features that seemed to awaken a quiet strength in the collection.

Although everyone was there to see Miss van Herpen’s latest collection, it was her inclusion of Gwendoline Christie that set the fashion tribe’s tongues wagging. The actress, who is known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in Games of Throne has not been shy about sharing that she is a fan of Iris van Herpen‘s work. The fan and the designer met in Amsterdam in April 2015. It was after this meeting that they decided to work on an idea together. Barely 6 months later their planning panned out when yesterday they became the most talked about show at Paris Fashion Week, not an easy feat with so much innovation taking place- hello Hussein Chalayan.

Christie, who modeled in Vivienne Westwood Gold Label’s show last season is no stranger to fashion. This season her appearance was on plinth-like structure positioned in the center of the runway. The strikingly handsome actress wore a IvH dress created by different techniques such as laser cutting, hand weaving, and 3D printing. Making for a stunning showpiece, she was flanked by three sculptures that had been ‘grown’ by  Jólan van der Wiel. Laying perfectly still, Christie, conjured up the image of sleeping beauty awaiting her prince’s kiss. The kiss never came, but the applause sure did.
