Dropel Fabrics, Everyday Wear Just Got Better

Courtesy of fashion start-up Dropel Fabrics, we soon we could be living in a world where our fashionable garments will be made of hydrophobic textiles. It all sounds scarily scientific yet quite brilliant.

The 6 month old company wants to bring to market stain-resistant clothing. They will do this by exploring a different route. Rather then put together their own collection of clothes created out of hydrophobic textiles, they will instead go into the production cycles with popular retailers and up-and-coming designers.

This way they can integrate hydrophobic textiles into everyday cotton fabrics ranging from from kids’ clothes to button-down shirts. Sim Gulati, co-founder and CEO of Dropel Fabrics believes,  “We live in a world full of stains, but we don’t have to, unlike other treatments, our fabrics maintain the plush softness of cotton we love to wear. Wine, beer, soda — not even soy sauce stands a chance.”

So how does it work? According to Dropel co-founder and President Bradley Feinstein, the ISO-certified textiles are produced by adding the stain-repelling nanotechnology into the fabric between the dyeing and knitting process. By using the nanotechnology they have created spill and stain repellent fabrics made of natural textiles that maintain hand-feel and breathability. Naturally when such an innovative idea is introduced one would expect to pay premium price but Dropel have confirmed that the cost of producing the garments with the technology will only increase the price by a further 5%. As for the retailers, they can expect to see up to a 40% increase in sales.

Promoting sustainability by cutting down on water and energy used in washing processes, the whole concept sounds ideal, so much so that Dropel has already successfully partnered up with retailers, including menswear and home furnishing brands.

With such fashion technology wonders to look forward too, we are excited to see how Dropel Fabrics will make everyday wear better for the masses and whether such advancement will affect the washing powder industry, we are talking to you Vanish.
