Kiss Your Purse Goodbye, Apple Watch’s a Straight Success

It is official, You can now kiss your purse goodbye, the Apple Watch’s a straight Success. With reports coming out stating that Apple’s first wearable tech device sales figures are out selling those of the iPhone and iPod when they first came to market, leaves us to conclude that “all critics are biting the dust”. I am sure that it will be a matter of time before the biggest influencer who spoke the loudest against the Apple Watch will be nailed to the cross of regret by Apple’s success. They will be referred to as having a Steve Ballmer moment. Ballmer is the former CEO of Microsoft, who back in September 2007 infamously dismissed the iPhone’s success with the words “There’s no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance.”

Since Apple Inc. has yet to confirm their sales to press, it is still a guessing game. But according to Tim Cook, the launch has been a success which has been slightly dimmed with Apple’s difficulties to live up to the high demand. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that the initial sales predicted seem to have been higher than expected by Apple themselves.

Now looking at the graph above, one could argue that it looks like the sales figures are going downhill but there are different factors to take into account. First of all, the sales in this figure are only portraying the online orders which started on the 10th of April 2015. Its going to be interesting to see the influence to Apple’s bottom line when the they decide to sell the Apple Watch directly from their brick-and-mortar stores. A yet to be confirmed rumour found voice after Tim Cook expressed to several employees, at their China headquarters, that Apple are looking to sell their Watch in store as of June 2015. What this will mean for the Cupertino based tech giant is that once the Watch is available in all the major cities worldwide, the sales stats are likely to go up again.

Another huge factor is long term. As I wrote earlier in “We will learn to love the Apple Watch“, the next generation of the Watch, like the iPod and the iPhone, will be a better version of the last one and will most likely offer better user experience. Also, don’t be surprised if the ‘new’ design will also boost future sales, because as the technology accelerates, the limitations in the field of design are likely to decrease. Of course when it comes to the user experience,  people will soon be able to leave their wallet at home because of the rising popularity of Apple Pay. I am sure that future devices will allow users to control all their home electrical devices from the wrist. I am confident that the Watch will soon make a significant difference in our life by adding the type of convenience that consumers have been impatiently waiting for.
