Finally, Wearables To Control Nearables

The Olio Model One, a cloud-based personal assistant smart watch that will let you know what is the most important to you when you need it.

Last year, my tech enthusiasm led me to write a piece that was published on Wired.com about Hearables to control your Wearables. The objective of the article was to share thoughts on how cool it could be for wearables to actually become more convenient in a way that would entice, instead of intrude, like the Olio Model One device, designed to “make our life easier”.

Model One is a new smart watch by former Apple, Pixar and NASA developers Steven Jacobs, Evan Wilson and AJ Cooper. They teamed up to give us what they call “the antithesis of a mass market product, produced to be everything to everyone.” Olio has translated this by adding some intuitiveness to the storm of notifications that we all can deal with on a daily basis. They simplified it by dividing the information received into two formats, the early stream and the late stream. The science behind it is based on the watch logging how you reply and swipe through your messages, so as to learn about your preferences. Presenting itself in a more intuitive way, the smart watch is a cloud-based personal assistant that will let you know what is the most important to you when you need it.

“I feel that it is only a matter of time before we won’t be able to buy any electrical devices without internet connectivity function”.

In my opinion, Model One’s standout USP, only briefly touched in Olio’s video, is how Wearables can act as a control hub from the wrist. Imagine controlling your smart devices like the heating, the lights, door locks, payments and even your car. This important feature embraces the inevitable direction that technology is heading. I feel that it is only a matter of time before we won’t be able to buy any electrical devices without internet connectivity function.

To fully control the devices in the smart home with our Wearables offers a level of convenience that could become ubiquitous in no time if the idea behind it is marketed properly. Olio’s ability to control nearables makes this smart watch a fully packed device that is better than smart, it is intellectual in its ability to give you tailor-made control and I cannot wait to try it out.

The stainless steel Model is available in 2 styles, the Black Collection, which has a technical dial that is burnished with gold accents and the Steel Collection which has radiant white markers with blue accents. Fully charged within an hour, the Olio watch has a 2 day battery life that is an improvement on Apple Watch’s 19 hour battery life. It can also still run in minimal mode so you won’t lose track of time. Olio’s lead designer, Josh Chadwick, former Movado developer, said: “It was important to us to create a true timepiece that was as enjoyable and delightful to look at and use, as it was useful in saving you time. Weight was really important to us- the use of authentic and natural materials that are carefully crafted and hand finished to provide an elevated look that is both enduring and expressive”  With prices starting from $595, there are only 500 limited edition of the iOS/Android compatible smart watch available for pre-order from the Olio.
